Sport psychology is a field of study which focuses on the psychological factors that affect sports performance and conversely how sports performance affect one’s psychological and physical states. While coaches focus on physical training to prepare an athlete for sports or competition, sports psychologists focus on the athlete’s mind.
Sports Psychologists work with professional and amateur athletes to improve motivation and performance, reinforce exercise routine, enhance psychological well-being, recover after a physical injury, overcome psychological hinderances and teach regulation, relaxation, perception and discipline techniques.
As a motivational counseling doctor of psychology or a Sports Psychologist, I have worked for over thirty-two years with some of this country’s top professional athletes to assures that they are able to build and maintain their motivational skills to achieve the performance that is expected from those paid at the top of their respective sport.
My cognitive behavioral tools which encompass focusing on how to learn to be positive – thus alleviating worries over natural slumps brought on by unrealistic fears have proven to be effective in the playoffs of many sports. These tools are also effective for the youngster who truly wants to accomplish their best.
