Raising boys in the #MeToo era

LoHuD: For many parents, the conversation is not just about a desire for an equitable society, it’s also about safeguarding their sons, particularly in their interactions with women.

Harris Stratyner, a psychologist at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, said parents are nervous.

“I treat a lot of powerful women. And I hear all the time that they are concerned that their sons may be good scholars, have great SAT or ACT scores,” said Stratyner. “But what if they go off to college and are abusive or inappropriate towards women? It’s going to impact their careers even more.”

Boys who are raised to be empathetic and treat others with respect are more likely to grow into well-adjusted men who have healthy and fulfilling relationships, he said.
